Decision 2013: Bechtel Says He Can Make Things Happen as District One Commissioner

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Current Bibb County Commissioner Gary Bechtel says he’s not done serving the citizens of Macon and Bibb County.

In an interview with 41NBC, Bechtel says while it’s going to be a challenge, he believes the new government will be able to reduce it’s operating budget over time. But, that means being fiscally responsible from the start.

“If we can balance that budget, and if we can play our cards right and get everything in motion, we can reach that 5% going forward,” said Bechtel.

He believes that will happen if Macon-Bibb’s new commission makes the right cuts and makes the right decisions to foster growth in the area.

Bechtel believes his district has plenty of room for that. He says in Northwest Bibb, particularly on Bass Road, there’s plenty of land for commercial development. He also adds his experience and relationships with the right players will help foster growth in his district, as well as in the entire county.

“I have connections with the people in Bibb County that make things happen,” said Bechtel.

Before being elected as a Bibb County commissioner last November, Bechtel served on the Bibb County Board of Education for 12 years. During his tenure on the board, he took on the roles of president and finance chair.
