Deadly school shootings in Turkey leave 9 dead, dozens injured in two days

(NBC)- A wave of deadly violence has shaken Turkey, where two school shootings in just two days have left communities reeling and raised urgent questions about safety.
Authorities say at least eight children and one teacher were killed after a 14-year-old student opened fire inside a middle school. The attack is being described as the deadliest school shooting in the country’s history.
Video from the scene captures the chaos as gunshots ring out and students scramble to escape—some jumping from second-story windows in desperation.
Witnesses described the horror unfolding in real time.
“A bunch of kids were shot,” one woman said outside the school.
Officials say the suspected shooter, identified as the son of a former police officer, was armed with multiple weapons and ammunition. Authorities say he died by suicide at the scene.
The massacre comes just 24 hours after another shooting at a different school in Turkey.
In that incident, an 18-year-old former student opened fire outside his old high school, wounding 16 people with a pump-action shotgun before also taking his own life, according to authorities.
“He burst in, pulled the trigger… we threw ourselves out of the window,” one injured student said.
Officials say it is not yet clear whether the two attacks are connected. Authorities have described the most recent shooting as a “personal” act rather than terrorism.
