Daybreak holds annual sleepout

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – It was cold Friday morning, but that was part of the “homeless” experience.

The Daybreak Center on Walnut Street in Macon hosted its 3rd annual Greater Macon Sleepout.

Nearly 70 participants spent the night in tents in the cold.

It was a way to experience a small part of what it’s like to be homeless.

Daybreak director Katie Norris says she wants people to understand no one should live as the homeless.

They have no comfortable place to sleep, and the weather can be rough.

Daybreak provides coffee and warm food in the morning.

It was Matt Rose’s first time doing the Sleepout.

In fact, he said he hadn’t even heard of Daybreak until recently.

But, he’s glad he was able to help the those in need by raising the $1000 goal each participant had.

This is the only fundraiser Daybreak does all year, and it helps pay for the food and other resources they give to the homeless.
