Dawsonville’s Chase Elliott Goes Two-For-Two On Northern Race Tour

DAWSONVILLE, GA – Young Chase Elliott continues to gain experience as part of his development deal with Hendrick Motorsports. The Aaron’s Dream Machine team headed north for this past weekend and 15-year-old son of NASCAR Champ Bill Elliott grabbed vicotries at both Dixie Motor Speedway in Birch Run, Michigan and Winchester Speedway in Indiana.

The Dixie Draper 125 at the .4-mile Birch Run track marked the first visit for both Elliott and the CRA Super Series. “I like this place,” he said. “It’s fun.”

After qualifying seventh, an invert allowed Elliott to lead the 24-car field to the green. But 21-year-old Becca Kasten grabbed the lead right away.

After 100 laps, Elliott was closing on Kasten as the two motored away from the rest of the field. Elliott remained right on Kasten’s bumper over the final laps and was preparing for a last-lap pass for the lead when Kasten’s car ran out of gas, ending the battle and securing the win for Elliott.

“It was great to get back to Victory Lane,”  Elliott said. “We’ll take it anyway we can get them. You have to cherish it. That was her race to win,” Elliott said of Kasten who wound up 13th. “I don’t think we could have gotten her if it wasn’t for (her running out of gas).”

After the victory lane celebration, Elliott and his team headed to historic Winchester Speedway for the CRA JEGS All-Star Tour 100. He became the youngest driver ever to win the prestigious Winchester 400 last season at the speedway.

An inversion put him on the outside pole where he took the lead on the first lap of the race but settled back into the third position by Lap 10.

Elliott chose the outside line on a late restart and pulled away from Brandon Watson over the final 19 laps to take his second win of the weekend and the second of his career at Winchester.

“I was really happy with our performance as a whole up north this past weekend,” Elliott said. “I felt like Friday night we had some work to do with the car to be ideal. Dixie Speedway is a great race track, and I hope to get back up there for another race.”

“The race at Winchester was a blast, and I am really excited to get back up there for the 400,” he said. “Our car needed a little work but that’s why we went.”

Up next for Elliott is the NASCAR K & N Pro Series East race at Greenville-Pickens Speedway on the Monday of Labor Day weekend.
