Gov. Brian Kemp announced the death of Congressman David Scott, who represented Georgia’s 13th District and served in Congress since 2002.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- During an appearance at the state capitol, Governor Brian Kemp announced the death of U.S. Rep. David Scott, calling him a champion of Georgia’s agriculture industry.

Scott was first elected to the United States House of Representatives in 2002. He was serving his tenth term representing Georgia’s 13th Congressional District.

Scott’s district includes six counties around metro Atlanta: Henry, Clayton, DeKalb, Rockdale, Newton, and Gwinnett.

He began his public service in 1974 when he was elected to the Georgia General Assembly.

Scott was born June 27, 1945, on a farm in Aynor, South Carolina.
