David Lucas Blasts Miriam Paris for Saying G.A.E. Endorses Her Campaign

It’s less than one week before election night, and the political mud-slinging is in full throttle.

Senate District 26 candidates, David Lucas and Miriam Paris, both received letters of approval from the Georgia Association of Educators. The letters were sent as a word of encouragement to the candidates as they continue forward in their campaigns, and not sent as letters of endorsement.

The problem? Paris mistook the letter as a letter of endorsement, and publicly announced the G.A.E. endorsed her.

Lucas says, Paris’ misunderstanding only shows that she is an unfit candidate for the senate seat in Atlanta.

“It’s quite obvious that if you cannot read a simple letter sent to you and comprehend it,” Lucas explains of Paris, “what kind of problems will you have trying to comprehend what’s going on in Atlanta?”

The letter the two candidates received from the G.A.E. says in part,

“the Georgia Association of Educators Fund for Public Education Committee (GAE-FPE) has accepted the recommendation of its local leaders in Senate District 26 to find your candidacy Acceptable.”

Paris’ campaign manager said that when they received the letter, they were unsure if it was a letter of endorsement, so they waited to say anything. When they didn’t hear back from the G.A.E., they publicly announced the G.A.E. endorsed them.

Paris’ manager also said that they are moving forward with the campaign, and admit that saying the letter was an endorsement was a mistake. They said the poorly written wording made them unclear as to exactly what the letter meant.
