Dance Company Owner Reflects on ‘Black History’

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – In honor of ‘Black History Month,’ 41NBC highlights local leaders and entrepreneurs throughout Middle Georgia.

Local dance instructor and business owner, Pilar Wilder encourages her students to strive for excellence, not just through movement, but through personal perfection.

The educator speaks on her contribution to the black culture using the art of dance.

Wilder owns Hiyaya Dance Theatre in Macon teaching hundreds of community various types of dances, including West African dance.

“They’re taking it to a whole new level. They’re going places that I’ll never be able to go and that’s a wonderful feeling as a teacher. That’s my goal…they have to be better than me,” says Wilder.

Hiyaya Dance Theatre is 13-years-old.
