Dallemand Not Planning to Leave Bibb County Schools, Says Board Approved Participation in Promise Neighborhood Program

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County Schools superintendent Dr. Romain Dallemand has broken his silence about recent lawsuits involving the district, and rumors that he’s trying to get out of his 3-year-contract with the school system.

In a statement released tonight to 41NBC news, Dallemand outlined the topics covered today at three separate district meetings.

“I emphatically reaffirmed my intention to remain the Superintendent of the Bibb County School District to honor the three-year contract that began on January 1, 2013,” Dallemand says. “This declaration comes as recent false reports have surfaced that I may be considering other employment opportunities, which I am not.”

Dallemand went on to say there’s been a lot of misinformation about the “Promise Neighborhood Initiative.” That has to do with the old Ballard-Hudson Middle School building, and a lease agreement between the school board, and the buildings owners. Bibb County’s former CFO Ron Collier has filed a lawsuit saying that lease of that building for the Promise Neighborhood programs is illegal.

Dallemand says of today’s meetings, “…I provided extensive documentation…to show that the members of the Board of Education knew about and unanimously approved the District’s participation in the Macon Promise Neighborhood initiative…My involvement was to carry out what the board approved, which is what I did to the best of my ability. “

In regards to the pending lawsuits, Dr. Dallemand added that he would not be commenting. Some Board members were subpoenaed to appear in a Bibb Superior Court hearing February 1st, to testify about the circumstances surrounding the lease of the building and Dallemand’s contract renewal, which some have said was done illegally.
