Dairy Lane: A Must Stop for Lunch

SANDERSVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — In the early 1950’s, Dairy Lane was just a small spot for snow cones and peanuts. The diner that has since been taken over by owner Ben Walters now serves a lot more than just that. If you can get it on a bun, chances are you can find it at Dairy Lane.

“We sell a lot of hot dogs, any kind of hamburger, barbeque, Brunswick stew, barbeque chicken, ribs,” said Walters.

Walters took over in 1994. Since then the burger joint has turned into a popular hang out not just for the local athletes, but the entire neighborhood.

Edith Taylor passes through the area at least once a week. “Every chance I get to come to Sandersville, I stop by and get a regular cheeseburger because that’s what I eat.”

Every jersey hanging inside the restaurant belongs to a former Washington County high school athlete and every sandwich that leaves the building is steamed with a fresh-o-matic.

“It just makes that cheese and mayonnaise melt on the bun,” according to Walters.

The cheeseburger consists of a two and three quarter ounce patty with Duke’s mayonnaise, a pickle, on a 4 inch bun. On a good day, Walters says a couple thousand are sold.

The menu also includes chili cheese dogs, chili cheese slaw dogs, grilled cheese, chicken fingers, and much more.

Dairy Lane is open everyday except on Thanksgiving and Christmas. They are located at 839 South Harris Street Sandersville, GA 31082. Hours of operation include 7AM to 11PM.
