Crews Continue to Search for Drowning Victim over the Weekend

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Crews returned to the Ocmulgee River this weekend in search for the missing swimmer, presumed dead as of Monday afternoon.

It is going on a week now and there is still no sign of the body of 24-year-old Aaron Cross.

Cross was swimming with friends at Amerson Water Works Park on April 1. He began to struggle and a friend jumped in to try and save him, but it was too late.

“We’re kind of gone down to the bend a little bit,” said Captain Dewey Davis with the Macon-Bibb Fire Department, “but we got a pretty good hit today, with the DNR sonar and we put a couple of divers in the water to check and see what it was, but it didn’t turn out to be anything.”

Davis said they plan to continue search efforts until the body is recovered. It’s the Department of Natural Resources protocol to actively search for at least 30 days. As the search continues, the bluff area of the Amerson Water Works Park will be closed to the public until further notice. Officials said crowds of people in the area are hampering search and rescue efforts.
