Credit card scams increase for Milledgeville, Baldwin Co. residents

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Baldwin County investigators are looking into several cases of credit card and debit card scams that are costing the victims a total of $15,000.

On Monday morning, Lt. Bobby Langford with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office says he found more case files on his desk.

Nearly 15 residents in Milledgeville and Baldwin County are victims and most of them bank with MidSouth Community Federal Credit Union.

“People go through your mail. They go to your trash to get your credit card numbers…That’s the reason we recommend that everybody shred all of their information,” says Langford.

Langford says the thieves take the information and use it to make purchases in the metro-Atlanta area. Major retailers such as, Publix, Dollar General and Walgreens are popular places for scammers to use stolen credit card information.

“In one store, the guys swiped six times for 15 dollars.”

The Baldwin Sheriff’s Office has four suspects in custody, but will not release any names until a full investigation is complete.
