CRAWFORD COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A memorial flagpole and stone were dedicated Thursday to Crawford County deputies who lost their lives in the line of duty. Community members gathered at the sheriff’s office to remember them.

Crawford County Sheriff Lewis Walker gave remarks to those in attendance.

“It’s very important to remember those who gave that ultimate sacrifice,” he said. “You just want the family to know that we appreciate what they did, and we’ll never forget what they did and what they meant to our community here in Crawford County.”

Timothy Rivers, who lost his life in February of this year, was among those honored, as well as Samuel Smith, who died in 2021 and Allen Kay O’Neal who died in 1975.

Sheriff Walker expressed appreciation for the support his office gets from the community.
