Crawford County businesses hope new Georgia Grown Trail boosts tourism

ROBERTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Crawford County businesses are hoping a new trail helps bring more tourism dollars into the county.

After a long drive, chances are you’ll get hungry.

“We serve good food,” Denise Cravey, at Champion’s Restaurant in Roberta, said.

She’s sort of a ‘jack of all trades’ at the restaurant that serves a little bit of everything to fill you up.

When you walk in the dining room, you’ll notice a sign acknowledging Champion’s as a stop on Trail 341.

I hope it helps as far as a lot of people do stop by just because we’re on this trail and it’s people I’ve never met and I enjoy meeting them,” Denise said.

“This trail is going to highlight agriculture, but there are plenty of avenues that it can go,” Patti Temple, the executive director for the Roberta-Crawford County Chamber of Commerce, said.

Georgia Grown Trail: 341, an extension to the trail on Highway 41, is part of the newest, longest, agri-tourism highways in the state. Visitors will be able to experience farms, vineyards, farmer’s markets, and agriculture related museums.

The Georgia Grown program’s mission is to help agricultural economies.

“It’s something that’s going to be very educational, but it’s also going to be a whole lot of fun,” Temple said.

Throughout the trails, there are stops promoting farms, wineries, and agricultural related museums. It’s an opportunity for people to see where their food comes from.

“By having the agri-tourism, like our Trail 41, it kind of puts our farms on the map. It lets people come out and visit us,” Kerry Dunaway, a farmer at Greenway Farms in Crawford County, said.

From the farm, right onto your dinner plate, and Denise says you might make a friend along the way.

“It’s fun. We have a good time working and we enjoy meeting everyone and as soon as they walk through that door for someone reason or another we just fall in love with them,” she said.

Crawford County commissioners approved putting up new signs for the Georgia Grown Trail along Highway 341 this week.
