Cranking Up the AC, Doesn’t Have to Cost You

Summer is just around the corner, which means it’s time to get your AC unit serviced.

According to Al Jones, with Wilson Bryant Air Conditioning, the two most important things to remember are to regularly clean and maintain your AC unit, which will prevent dust and dirt from building up in the system. Jones says, “A dirty filter would reduce air flow causing the unit to strain and work a lot harder than it would.”

Jones says another way to reduce utility bills is to check the vents air circulates in. He says, “There’s a lot of wasted air on duct systems, because they are not properly sealed.”

If your unit is more than 12 years old consider swapping it for an energy efficient one, according to Energy Star, that change could save around $1000 a year and cut cooling costs by 30%.

New AC units now have better technology. Wilson Bryant Sales Manager, Kevin Bryant says,· “Air conditioners in our homes now have the capabilities to slow down on speed the same way our fans in our cars can slow down.”

New units can even control humidity. Bryant says these units end up paying for themselves in the long run. ” We’re all becoming more aware of the energy problems we are creating for ourselves, and we are also having to spend more money to do so that makes energy efficiency very important in this day and time.”
