Council Members React to the Death of Tom Simms
WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Warner Robins Council members and local officials weighed in on the death of former city council member Tom Simms.
According to Houston County Coroner Danny Galpin, Simms was found dead in his home Tuesday morning. Gaplin said there is nothing to indicate any foul play.
Warner Robins City Council held a special called meeting Tuesday to discuss personnel issues but the attention quickly turned to the loss of the former city council man. Mayor Chuck Shaheen opened the meeting with a statement and a moment of silence. He described Simms as a “devoted friend to all of the constituents he served.” Shaheen said he was influential in the building of the new Law Enforcement Center. The building is expected to be complete in January.
“He had a dynamic vision for downtown Warner Robins,” Shaheen read in his statement.
Council member Mike Brashear attended church with Simms.
“It’s just a lost for us. He was a good citizen and he did what he thought was right for the city. At this time, I’d like to express my thoughts and prayers to his family,” Brashear said.
Council member Carolyn Robbins worked with Simms for years.
“He was a good council person, his father was a good council person, we will certainly miss him,” Simms said.
Council member Mike Daley learned about Simms death shortly before the meeting. He said he’s still in shock.
“My prayers go out to Tom’s family in a time like this,” Daley said.
Funeral arrangements for Simms have not been made.
