Cost of Storm Clean-Up

The cost to clean up this week’s ice storm is adding up.

Ken Sheets, the director of Bibb county’s engineering department estimates the county spent between $8,000-$10,000 in overtime pay, sand, gravel, salt and fuel expenses.

24 public works employees worked overtime to clear roadways, he said. the largest expense.

Every year, Bibb County and the city of Macon set aside money to pay for materials and overtime in case a storm hits the area.

Mayor Robert Reichert’s spokesman, Andrew Blascovich, says there won’t be an estimate of the city’s storm expenses until employees turn in their timesheets next week.

Bibb county’s Chief Administrative Officer, Steve Layson, says if the city and county consolidated public works departments, clean-up would be more consistent.
