Cooler temperatures start the new week

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The main story for today will be that it’s our last day of humid conditions and rain chances through at least the middle of the upcoming week. A cold front has pushed through the state overnight into early Monday morning. It has ushered in a much drier and cooler airmass, with dewpoints crashing from the upper 60s to the mid to upper 50s. This will lead to a dry, mostly sunny, and pleasant Monday, with afternoon temps only reaching the low to mid 80s across north Georgia, and upper 80s across Middle Georgia. Winds will feel a little bit breezy during the afternoon, with gusts to around 15-20 mph out of the northwest. Moving into the final week of August, northwest flow will prevail thanks to the Southeast’s placement on the lee side of a ridge across the western U.S. With surface high pressure nosing its way atop the eastern half of the country and lingering for several days, the resulting subsidence should be enough to fizzle out any passing disturbances. A front riding along the southern fringes of the broader trough is currently accompanying slight precipitation chances on Tuesday, but will introduce a reinforcing shot of dry air in its wake. Conditions will be incredibly pleasant through midday Thursday. Mornings are likely to be crisp as well, dropping into the lower 50s to mid 60s each morning.
