Cool temps and overcast skies continue Friday, storms likely on Sunday

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — We’re not done with the cool air and cloudy skies yet. The cool wedge of high pressure remains in our area throughout the day, breaking down sometime this afternoon. Therefore, it’ll be a bit warmer today compared to yesterday’s 61 degree high, but it’ll still be on the cooler side.

We won’t see the sun today as increased cloud cover, both from the wedge and the moisture from the southwest, will blanket the skies. And although the cool wedge breaks down today, the thick cloud cover will keep the warm sunlight out of the area. Therefore, I’m putting our high at around 69.

The sun has a better chance at peeking out from the clouds tomorrow, though it should still be a cloudy day with a chance for showers and possibly storms.

The next big story is a front that will move through the area on Monday. Ahead of the front is abundant rainfall, with Sunday in particular looking like a very rainy day. Our chance for storms increases with a marginal chance for severe weather. So far, no flood watches are in effect for any areas near rivers or in low-lying areas. If you live in or near that kind of area, this is a GREAT time to download the free 41 First Alert Weather app on your smartphone or tablet to get those kind of watches and warning up to the minute.

By Tuesday, the front will have moved through the area and sunshine returns. Highs on Tuesday are in the upper 70s.
