MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A community event is happening in Macon this Saturday that you don’t want to miss.

Convoy of Hope, Hope for Heart of Georgia, Christ Chapel Macon, several local businesses, government agencies and non-profits are partnering with the hopes of helping families before the start of the new school year.

Convoy of Hope is a global faith-based organization, providing all kinds of resources, according to Amy Bilsland, the Church Ministries Director at Christ Chapel of Macon.

Convoy of Hope is providing more than 40,000 pounds of food, more than 1,200 pairs of shoes, more than 2,000 backpacks and school supplies.

Bilsland explains why her church, Christ Chapel Macon, is getting involved.

“We’re doing this because we want to be a light in our community, and so, this just a way that we can serve, give back, and show the love of Christ to our community,” she said.

Attendees can also get haircuts, family portraits, community services and a free meal.

The community event is scheduled for this Saturday, July 26, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Middle Georgia Industrial Complex located at 2525 Pio Nono Avenue in Macon.

No I.D. is required, and the event is free.
