(CNN)- Authorities across metro Atlanta are searching for a convicted felon who escaped custody just days after Conyers Police stopped him with a PIT maneuver during a high-speed chase.
Dash-cam video shows officers using the maneuver to stop Timothy Shane in Covington the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Police say Shane was wanted for kidnapping his ex-girlfriend and faced several charges including felony fleeing, methamphetamine possession, and reckless driving. He was arrested at the scene.
Residents who witnessed the chase say the situation left them shaken.
“Scary because I got kids… I ain’t never been around nobody that kidnapped,” said neighbor Akilah Dice.
But the fear has grown — because Shane is now on the run again. Officials say he escaped custody early Monday during a mental-health evaluation at Grady Memorial Hospital. Deputies say he fled without shoes, stole an SUV, then crashed it.
After a lengthy search in Atlanta, investigators believe Shane stole a second vehicle — a silver Pontiac Grand Prix — near Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office says he may now be in the Henry County area. Authorities also warn Shane may be armed.
When asked if he still has the gun from the SUV, Lt. Billy Burrel said: “We have no reason to believe he got rid of it… We definitely believe he is armed and dangerous.”
Anyone who sees Shane or knows where he may be should contact law enforcement immediately.
