8th District Congressman Austin Scott’s biggest concern is creating private jobs to help the Country’s economy get back on track.”Jobs, jobs, jobs, private sector jobs. You know over the last couple of years they have spent $3 million. We have unemployment that is close to 10%…what has been done has not worked.”
In Tuesday’s State of the Union Address, President Barack Obama acknowledged global job competition, and according to Congressman Scott, the effects it has had on working Americans could easily be avoided.
“I think that the people who have the capital to invest are looking at America right now with a fair amount of skepticism. I think that they want to invest in Americans. They want to put Americans back to work. Americans want to go to work, but the people who have that money and that capital to invest…number one we have not allowed them to bring money back into this country.”
President Obama announced a 5 year freeze on domestic spending in an attempt to close the large deficit gap the country faces, but Scott says that might not be enough.
“I certainly think it’s a step in the right direction. I think that it may not be that freezing is enough and it may be that we have to go to some of these agencies that cannot justify their existence and eliminate them.”
