Community Still Rallying for Justice for Junebug

MACON, Georgia (41 NBC/WMGT) – There was another rally for “Justice for Junebug.” The case where Sammie Davis Jr. was shot and killed five months ago by Macon police officer Clayton Sutton. 

The rally began Tuesday around 5 PM, that’s when Davis’s family, friends and supporters including representatives from the NAACP took to City Hall for “Justice for Junebug.”

Many came out to support the cause, in which they believe Davis was shot and killed out of racial discrimination and not out of self defense. Davis’s sister Cheryl Davis spoke with the media about her appreciation that no one has given up the fight for justice.

“It feels so good to know that this isn’t just for Junebug, this is for other men and women who have been victimized in one way or another by the police,” Davis said. “To see us come together like this Im happy it lets me know that there is some hope here in Macon.”

Davis also told 41 NBC that she believes that Macon Mayor Robert Reichert and Macon Police Chief Mike Burns should be removed from their positions, believing that there is so much racially wrong with the case of the death of her brother. 

Macon’s shooting review board is supposed to look over the case tomorrow. The District Attorney decided that Officer Clayton Sutton would not face criminal charges for the shooting after reviewing the evidence.
