Community Sees Conceptual Draft of Second Street Revitalization
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The community got a sneak peak at the design plans to revitalize the Second Street corridor in Macon.
Project designers showed off a draft of the Second Street corridor improvements. It includes adding bike lanes, street car transportation, parks and building a public square at the intersection of Pine Street and Second Street.
Residents, business owners and local leaders pitched ideas during a multi-day design charrette. The designers say they’re amazed by the communities’ participation.
“People were saying the same things, sometimes in a slightly different way or putting it in a slightly different place, but they were asking the same kinds of questions, how to really make Second Street a center piece again for Macon,” Christian Sottile with Sottile and Sottile Urban Design said.
The designers will continue working on the plans and should have a final draft by March. The city is paying for these improvements with the SPLOST funds voters approved last year.
