Community Remembers Children Who Died in Fire

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Cars lined James Street tonight in Macon as the community turned out in droves to remember three children who lost their lives in a house fire on Sunday.

Mourners held a candlelight vigil in front of the family’s former home.

The three children, 10-year-old Nykhiya, 9-year-old Jamarrian and 7-year-old Daija Williams died in an accidental fire Sunday.

Tonight, speakers included Riley Elementary School principal, Kent Sparks, who talked about the void that’s now left at his school.

The children’s aunt, Latosha Cone, says she saw them almost every day and won’t forget the last time she saw them on Friday.

“Daija, the baby, the 7-year-old, (she was always) giggling, loved to say, ‘Can I have? Give me some!’ Or you know, just always laughing and giggling,” says Cone.  “And Jamarrian–he was a boy; I will say that.  He was a little boy–he did boyish things.  (He was) a little hard-headed but still sweet, and Nykhia, (she was) just sweet–just a little lady.  I could see her cheeks now and just nothing but her smiling.”

Another child, 3-year-old J’lon, was also in the home at the time of the fire.

He’s been in Augusta at the burn center and was listed in critical condition, but tonight, Cone tells us he has been released.
