MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – “You can come back from anything. It’s literally ya mindset.”
Those are the words of American Rapper Rod Wave, and on Wednesday, his quote was unveiled in mural on a wall in a Communities in Schools classroom at SOAR Academy on Riverside Drive in Macon.
A handful of students worked with Erin Hawkins of Mama Hawk to create the installation.
Through the mural, Communities in Schools Executive Director Taryn Collinsworth said the students learned a whole new set of skills they can use later in life, including how art can change a community and a person’s life.
CIS received a $30,000 grant from the Macon Violence Prevention (MVP) program to enhance academic success by providing holistic support that empowers students to envision and pursue promising futures.
This project was funded with part of that grant money.
CIS has also worked with U Create Macon to teach students bike maintenance skills and how to use a bike safely.
