MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Commissioner Joe Allen announced Friday that he will be running for Mayor for the new Bibb-Macon Government.

Allen, the current District 4 Representative on the Bibb County Board of Commissioners, held the news conference in the Bibb County Courthouse Friday morning.

“I want to work for you, I need that chance, I want your vote,” Allen said.

Allen went on to say that his biggest priority is pulling both Macon and Bibb County together with a transition team, and he wants to bring a team of people together who know what this community needs.

When asked if he thought being transparent will seperate himself from the other candidates. Allen gave out his cell phone number saying that he will “personally call you back, and do what is neccessary to take care of your needs.”

The field running for Mayor of the new Bibb-Macon Government now has five candidates and Allen says that he has no problem running in the “crowded” field saying that his name is “as well known as anyone.”

“My goal is to make Macon-Bibb County the best that it can be,” Allen said. ” We’re going to have to work as a team.”

Allen closed by saying that he will do his very best in order to serve the people of the community, the same people he has served throughout his entire life.

The election is set for July 16.
