Commission Submits Recommendation to Governor for Williams’ Case

A panel of officials met in Atlanta to discuss whether Warner Robins Councilman John Williams should be suspended on Thursday.

Williams was accused of filing a false police report last June, when he reported his city-issued cell phone stolen.

Since his indictment on one count of felony false statements and writings in November, Governor Nathan Deal requested the review commission. The panel completed it’s initial hearing in just 10 minutes.

“The indictment needs to relate to an action of office, has to adversely affect that office and has to adversely affect the public’s interest for that individual to stay in office,” said Attorney General Sam Olens.

During the hearing, Williams’ lawyer Charles Cox told the committee that Williams should not be suspended because the indictment does not relate to his duties as a councilman.
