Commission Begins Studies to Prepare Robins Air Force Base for Possible BRAC

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Region leaders are using a news series of studies as a line of defense against of the possibility of a potential round for Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC).

The 21st Century Partnership, a community organization that supports Robins Air Force Base, is spending $175,000 on a series of 15 studies. The Middle Georgia Regional Commission will conduct the studies to show how Robins measures up to 13 other bases across the country. The findings will be used to identify strengths and weaknesses and make improvements in preparation for a potential BRAC.

“We want to make sure that Middle Georgia is ready when the BRAC process begins, so that we know what the answers to the questions are, before they ask them,” Laura Mathis with the Middle Georgia Regional Commission explained.

The series is not limited to Houston County. Several surrounding counties including Peach and Bibb will be included in the research. The research will study everything from education, economic impact and encroachment in the region. The first study in education is expected to be released this month. The rest of the results will be released month by month until June.
