“The magic age for screening for most people is 50. 93 percent of all colon cancer is diagnosed over the age of 50,” said Ebanks.

Doctor Carley Ebanks is a gastroenterologist at ColiseumMedicalCenter and specializes in colon health. Dr. Ebanks says you should get your first colon screening when you’re 50 years old and African Americans, who have a slightly greater risk, should be screen at 45. One of the greatest dangers of colon cancer is the fact that you may not know when you have the disease.
