College Hill Gets $2.3 Million Grant To Boost Job Creation
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The City of Macon is taking the next step to revitalize the College Hill Corridor.
The College Hill Alliance received a $2.3 million grant from the Knight Foundation to create an “Innovation Corridor.” The alliance is partnering with Jumpstart America and the plan is to keep Macon’s college graduate in town by boosting entrepreneurship and attract homegrown businesses to the area.
Mercer University President William Underwood says job creation in this part of the city is the next step in revitalization.
“For this corridor to achieve its full potential as a place that helps us attract and retain these talented young people, there has to be economic opportunity here,” he said.
Jumpstart America is a non-profit organization that will work with the alliance to boost job creation by helping new businesses get started and expand on existing businesses.
President Underwood expects the “Innovation Corridor” to be up and running by the end of the next three years.
