College campus safety tips

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – College students are headed back to class.

Mercer police say those who are living on campus need to be aware of ways to protect their items from being stolen.

Chief Gary Collins warns if valuables are not put in secure locations, they can be taken.

“If it has serials numbers, please get the serial numbers down. They can buy little personal safes or lockers where they can put a lock on it and lock their stuff,” Collins adds.

According to Strand Insurance Company, one of the most common campus crimes is theft, including cash, computers, cell phones, debit cards and jewelry.
