Coliseum Northside Hospital honors first responders

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – With the anniversary of the September 11th attacks coming up, medical officials at the Coliseum Northside Hospital want to say thank you to those who risk their lives to protect the public.

By night, Heath King is a self-proclaimed grill expert…
“I put about 16 Boston butts on the smoker last night at 7 p.m. and let them cook for a good 12 hours,” he said.
By day, he’s the CFO of the Coliseum Hospital in Macon. He says he manned the grill late into the evening hours, but he adds it’s all for a good cause.
“It’s great to be able to give a little something back to them, and you know kind of celebrate them this week,” King said.
The Coliseum Northside Hospital put on a barbecue and short presentation for emergency responders, thanking them for the job they do every day.
“These first responders are our neighbors. They’re moms and dads, brothers and sisters, husbands and  wives,” CEO Steve Daugherty said.
The celebration is especially important for Mark Bandy with Mid Georgia Ambulance.

He’s been part of the company for almost four years and knows every day isn’t always a good one.
“This is a thankless job whether you’re in fire, police, or EMS we do this day in and day out and we see people on the worst days of their lives,” Bandy said.
Other personnel agree.
“It is very much a job that many of us, those that are on the road especially, sacrifice time with our families, and we don’t get a thank you very often,” Liana Rogers, the EMS coordinator for the Coliseum Health System said.
Daugherty thinks it’s important to honor those who risk their lives for the public’s safety now more than ever.
“This is really are way of fulfilling that promise to never forget, and to honor the people that are right here in our local community that come to the aid of any and everyone when they need it,” he said.
