Cochran Mayor Cliff Avant Turns Himself In for Stealing Thousands in PVC Line

Cochran Mayor Cliff Avant turned himself into Cochran police at 1:30 this afternoon, saying he took 25 pieces of 20 ft. PVC pipe from the sewage treatment plant. Each piece was valued at $100 a piece.

Assistant Chief Key McGuire says Avant donated them to the House of Grace church in Bleckley County, which is the church he attended.

The PVC lines were stacked near the sewage plant, and police say they had been sitting there for a long time. McGuire says Avant may have thought they were not going to be used for anything.

The case will be forwarded to the DA, who will decide whether the case will head to a grand jury.
