Cloudier and (a little) warmer heading into the weekend

Middle Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The clouds spread and the sun backs down. Expect the clouds to stick around through at least Sunday morning as more moisture flows into Georgia.

The rain comes in two waves. The first wave is pretty tame as a batch of moisture moves into the southeast and breaks apart. A few showers will enter the area, mostly light, but most of us will barely see a drop. The second round of precipitation arrives on Saturday, and that actually looks like it’ll bring more widespread rain into our area. NOTHING like late December, by the way — simply a higher chance of rain.

Temperatures will continue their warm-up; I have 60s for highs this Saturday, and morning lows will be in the 40s through Sunday morning. By Monday morning, however, I have 20s again with low 50s for highs and sunnier skies. So this warm-up will be short-lived as the second round of rain will usher into the area cooler temperatures.

One caveat: long-range forecasting into next week has been unusually difficult. Our chief meteorologist, Chris Simmons, has talked about how next week will be a “dart board” as far as highs go. Expect us to continue to modify those highs as we get closer to early next week.
