City of Warner Robins Donates Vehicles to Central Georgia Technical College Police

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Officers at Central Georgia Technical College are getting five police vehicles to help boost patrols at all eleven campuses in middle Georgia.

They were donated by the city of Warner Robins and its police department.

As student gear up for class and college professors make up their lesson plans…officers with the Central Georgia Technical College Police Department are stepping up patrols.

Central Georgia Campus Police Chief Bob Wilbanks says the cars will impact the force immediately.

“We have five now, so this pretty much doubles our fleet and we’re building as a newly merged police department,” Wilbanks said. “It enhances our capability to provide public safety of our constituents and our customers.”

Warner Robins officials including Mayor Chuck Shaheen handed keys over to Tech College President, Dr. Ivan Allen.

The cars are fixer uppers. They’re surplus vehicles from the city, after the police department received brand new squad cars themselves.

Chief Wilbanks says the additional cars will potentially lower crime on all eleven campuses.

“The presence of police officers and police vehicles does provide a deterrent, there’s no way to measure that…it certainly acts a deterrent and provides us the capability to protect and serve,” Wilbanks said.

Central Georgia Technical College’s auto lab is going to take the five the squad cars so students can work on them and paint them so the cars can be ready to hit the road.
