City Of Macon Promote Child Passenger Safety Week
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The City of Macon is boosting child passenger safety awareness by educating parents on how to properly use car seats and booster seats.
The city teamed up with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to educate students and their families on keeping young passengers safe while on the road.
“We are so excited to be joining our partners for such an important event,” GOHS Director Harris Blackwood said in a statement. “Our children are our most precious cargo and we need to make sure they’re safe and secure every time they get in a car.”
Several events were held which included demonstrations on when to use a car seat or booster seat, rollover simulators, and impaired driving demonstrations.
Macon Mayor Robert Reichert officially declared September 16-22 as Child Passenger Safety week. He hopes everyone will use proper safety for their children.
“To see an innocent child hurt or injured or heaven forbid maimed or killed in circumstances that are preventable, where properly restrained, the injures would be greatly minimized or eliminated and reduced,” he said.
Mayor Reichert says not properly restrained passengers is the leading cause of death for children ages one to thirteen. The city says it will hold free car seat inspection stations to ensure the best protection for your kids.
