MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — With temperatures nearing one hundred degrees in Middle Georgia for consecutive days, a local church is working actively to support the most vulnerable in the community.

Centenary United Methodist Church in Macon is helping residents in need stay hydrated and safe. Senior Pastor Sara Pugh Montgomery, emphasizes the importance of their community fridge, which she says is diligently restocked with water to help combat the extreme heat.

“There is just this essential need. Something that is able to help our bodies work in the best ways that they can and so, it’s an asset for folks,” she said. “It is a right and it’s not something that we want to place a barrier around.  So, we wanted to make sure that there was an ability to be able to receive that gift and that nutrient.”

Pastor Pugh Montgomery encourages the community to contribute what they can to support their neighbors.

The community fridge is located behind the Centenary Community Ministries building at the intersection of College and Ash Streets.

In addition to local efforts, the Macon-Bibb Emergency Management Agency is reminding everyone to stay hydrated, remain indoors in air-conditioned spaces, and check on relatives and neighbors who may need assistance.
