Chris Dietrich wins 19th annual Will Robinson Memorial 5K

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Chris Dietrich was alone as he jogged into first place at the 19th annual Will Robinson Memorial 5K Run.
“I always look at my competition, when I get here, I see a lot of familiar faces,” says Dietrich. “I didn’t really see anybody that I thought would be competition. So, I figured I probably had it.”
Dietrich was escorted to the finish line by a Baldwin County sheriff’s car with blue lights flashing announcing the first place winner.
He finished the 5K in 17 minutes. By the way, he also won the memorial race in 2012.
Hundreds of people took part in the 19th annual will robinson memorial run at Central State Hospital in Milledgeville, Saturday.
Runners took off in the 5K race hoping to come in first whether they were among the numerous sprinters or among the people who walked the route around the hospital’s campus.
The race is held in rememberance of slain Baldwin County Sheriff deputy Will Robinson.
Baldwin County Sheriff, Bill Massee says the annual race reminds residents of the dangers law enforcement face every day.
“We had a fine young man who responding to a call here in Baldwin County, was shot and killed and it’s no different then 20 years ago, than it is for these young people working here today,” says  Sheriff Massee.
Georgia State Patrol Cpl. Ed Starling says he knew Will Robinson and went to school with a few of his family members.
The more Cpl. Starling watched the race the more he wanted to compete. He says he went from spectator to participator.
“It’s an annual event that I’ve always attended, I just started running it the last few years and it’s a great way to honor his memory,” says GSP Cpl.Starling.
Deputy robinson was gun downed in December 1995 by Robert Holsey. Holsey is scheduled to be executed on Dec. 9, for the murder.
Georgia trooper starling says the execution should help give Robinson’s family closure in the murder case.
