Child dies in Memorial Day weekend collision

ALLENTOWN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is working to determine how a child was killed in a car accident, over the Memorial Day weekend.

The fatal collision happened Sunday at 4:40p.m., on Georgia Highway 29/Highway 441 at Highway 112 in Allentown.

Georgia State Patrol Trooper, Corey Alligood said five-year-old, Emily Ross was riding in a van with her mother, Christine Marie Griffith. Witnesses told Alligood Griffith ran a stop sign and cross the roadway crashing into a car.

“The van got T-boned on the passenger side and the vehicle went into a ditch on the west shoulder of the road,” said Alligood. “The mother and her child were pulled out of the car, but the child was not breathing.”

Bystanders tried to revive Emily using CPR. She was taken by ambulance to Fairview Park Hospital and was later flown to the Medical Center of Central Georgia where she was pronounced dead.

Charges are pending in the fatal accident, according to Alligood.
