Child dies in hospital after weekend fire at Macon apartment complex

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A child died in the hospital Monday after a fire Saturday night at the Anthony Homes apartment complex on Wren Avenue.

Sgt. Ben Gleaton with the Macon-Bibb Fire Department tells 41NBC it happened around 11 at night. He adds firefighters went into the home and found 7-year-old Zantrell Russell on the floor in one of the bedrooms. The child was taken to a hospital.

Sgt. Gleaton says bystanders got two others safely outside of the home. 

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
