Chief Judge Edward Lukemire to retire from Houston Judicial Circuit
Lukemire’s cases will be handled by the court’s three other Superior Court judges, the clerk said. He will officially retire April 1, 2026.

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Chief Judge Edward Lukemire of the Superior Court of the Houston Judicial Circuit is retiring after nearly three decades, according to the Houston County Superior Court Clerk.
Lukemire’s cases will be handled by the court’s three other Superior Court judges, the clerk said. He will officially retire April 1, 2026.
According to the Georgia Judicial Nominating Commission, members of the bar and the public were notified of the change February 18.
A news release states that the Georgia Judicial Nominating Commission is receiving names to fill the vacancy on the Superior Court of the Houston Judicial Circuit created by the resignation of the Honorable Edward D. Lukemire.
Nominations must be received by the commission no later than March 6. They may be submitted by email to Vincent Russo, co-chair of the commission, at nominations@robbinsfirm.com or by mail to Judicial Nominating Commission, c/o Vincent Russo, 500 14th Street, N.W., Atlanta, Georgia 30318. Nominations should include a current email address for each nominee so the commission may make contact.
The deadline for nominees to submit an application is March 20. Applications may be submitted by email to nominations@robbinsfirm.com or by mail to the same Atlanta address. Applicants should download the application package from the commission’s website at jnc.georgia.gov/application. Those selected for an interview will be notified of the date, time and location.
The commission will select and recommend to the governor a short list of applicants it finds “qualified” or “well qualified” for the position.
