Cherry Blossom Festival kicks off in Macon

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The 2015 Cherry Blossom Festival is here. This time organizers say the events are going to be bigger and better.

Despite the overcast skies, sunshine is ready to burst for this year’s festival.

The 33rd annual Cherry Blossom Festival is off and running and planners say they have something for everyone.

“Lots of good stuff, lots of new things, but also lots of traditional standard things that have been our mainstay for the festival for a long time,” Jake Ferro, the CEO and President of the festival said.

Each year thousands make their to Macon to paint the town pink.

“Kids are at space camp over in Huntsville, Alabama so we got a free weekend. It just timed out right,” one couple from Peachtree City said.

“My little girl has a field trip going on and we’re just coming here to enjoy the fair,” one Wilkinson County father said.

Cherry Blossom officials say there are a lot of new activities and events at this year’s festival, but some of the rides and things at Central City Park aren’t going anywhere.

The food, the rides, the festivities are all ready for you….rain or shine.

“We’ve got to be flexible enough to move things, but also to plan ahead of time to have more indoor versus outdoor,” Ferro said.

Fair-goers and organizers say this will be the best year yet, and they’re inviting everyone to enjoy the pinkest part on earth.
