Chase Elliott Battles Through Tough Race At Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – After qualifying seventh, Chase Elliott and his HendrickCars.com/Aaron’s Chevrolet team battled through electrical gremlins and spinning cars to salvage an 18th place finish at the historic Bowman Gray Stadium on the campus of Winston-Salem State University

“I thought our stuff was a lot closer this weekend than it has been in the past,” Elliott said. “And we made some progress in practice as well.”

All seemed well until Elliott’s car shut off  during a caution period due to a dying battery. Since Elliott couldn’t keep pace with the field he was penalized and sent to the back of the pack.

A few laps later another caution flag flew because of a car spinning just in front of Elliott’s No.  9 machine which received some slight hood damage as he was pushed into the car in front of him.

Once again the car shut off and wouldn’t refire, a situation that persisted and wound up causing Elliott to lose four laps to the leader.

Numerous accidents, many of them occurring just in front of Elliott, led to a total of 15 cautions periods. The final 50 laps of the race didn’t see a green flag run of more than four laps. Elliott soldiered his way through the demolition derby that the rest of the field was taking part in to bring home an 18th place finish behind race winner Matt DiBenedetto.

“It was neat to race at Bowman Gray after hearing so much about it,” he said. “It makes it a lot of fun racing in front of such a huge crowd.”

This Saturday, June 11, Elliott will be racing at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, Georgia, his sixth NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race of the season.  Elliott has been successful in Pro and Super Late Model racing at GMP.

“I’m looking forward to going to Gresham Motorsports Park this weekend and to continue making more progress as a team,” Elliott said.
