Charities benefit from seasonal decluttering
With the New Year just two days away, Middle Georgians are decluttering their homes and helping local charities in the process.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – With the New Year just two days away, Middle Georgians are decluttering their homes and helping local charities in the process.
Jeff Moss, a franchise owner of College Hunks, says there’s been a substantial uptick in the disposal of household items, including furniture and toys. He says his company often donates items to organizations like Habitat for Humanity or the Salvation Army.
Moss says about 70 percent of the material collected by College Hunks is either recycled or donated.
Ivey Hall, the Executive Director at Macon Area Habitat for Humanity, says the influx of items this time of year, particularly furniture, appliances and kitchen cabinets, is due to residents’ home remodeling and preparation for holiday gifts.
She says items like these are instrumental in helping local families secure housing.
