‘Chaos’: Middle Georgia Runners Describe Boston Marathon Explosion

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Lori Brewer was closing in on the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday, when her day of celebration turned to pure chaos.

“Everyone was cheering for everyone, and it was great weather, and then to just end like that it’s just horrible,” Brewer said.

The Macon software and database developer, said runners scattered in panic. She described the event as simply “chaotic”.

Brewer is one of eight runners from the Middle Georgia area competing in the marathon. Stephanie Freeman from Rochelle was in Boston on Monday when she heard the explosions that shook the finish line.

“I was in the mall eating at the food court and we heard the bomb go off and the whole food court was stampeded,” Freeman said, “and I had to jump over a table to get outside, it was bad, it was awful sounding.”

At least seven runners from Macon and Warner Robins are reportedly safe tonight. Macon Tracks Running Club board member Steve Corkery has contacted runners Marcus Parker from Macon, Heather Trana from Centerville and George Neville from Warner Robins. He also said that Grace Tinkey, who ran in the 5K Sunday is safe. Freeman told 41NBC that she has been in contact with Macon runner Kristie Poole who is also doing fine.
