Central High School football players Evans, King sign scholarships

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Central High School in Macon has two football players going to college on a scholarship.

Quarterback Derrick Evans signed with Carson-Newman University in Jefferson, Tennessee Wednesday morning during National Signing Day.

Defensive lineman Chandler King signed with Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina along with Evans.

The ceremony was in the school auditorium.

Evans and King praised the school and its coaches for their success.

“I feel great right now just being able to sign papers, just being blessed to be able to go and play college football and receive an education,” said Evans.

“I wasn’t barely coming to school until I met Coach Hicks,” said King. “He taught me who God was I didn’t know who God was at first neither, he taught me all that and he taught me how to become a man.”

Coach Jesse Hicks says both men were leaders on his team and will succeed at the next level.
