MACON, Georgia – (41NBC/WMGT) – The Central Georgia Technical College held its annual media day for the Titans Men’s and Women’s basketball teams ahead of their 2024-25 season.

Coming into the third year for Titans Men’s Head basketball Coach, Gerald Fitch, the former Westside Seminoles player is leading his Titans squad into battle after coming off a 16-15 season where the Titans showed promise in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association after finishing with an 11-5 record.

For the ladies, it’s the first year for new Women’s Head basketball Coach, and former Peach County Boys Head Basketball Coach, John Gordon.  Coach Gordon will try to improve a Lady Titans team that went 17-15 overall, and played well in the GCAA with a 12-6 record.

“I expect them to win a championship and get all ‘A’s’. No, I’m just playing, but I do have high expectations” said Coach Fitch.  “I don’t allow ‘C’s’. I think that’s great for their recruiting. This teaches them about responsibility. I do want to win a championship, but it’s not the end of the world if we don’t.  The main thing is for them to have a great college experience here at Central Georgia Tech.  It’s just exciting. I’m like a little kid. I’m still a student to the game, student to coaching, so I just have fun with it everyday.”

Coach Gordon is happy if his ladies give it all they have on and off the court. “As long as they’re hitting thier grades, hitting the weight room, and then competing on the court, they have a chance to go somewhere. That’s our focus, its not about the wins and the losses, its about them being their best selves to get wherever they want to get to” said Coach Gordon.

CGTC freshman, and Houston County High School alum Devon Robertson spoke on the grind and what he expects from his team.  “We all want it. I came from high school where some people are lazy, but we all want to win and I can see it in them, so that encourages me to play harder” said Robertson.  “Whenever I’m lacking, they are going to tell me. It’s not coming from a place of ‘What are you talking about? You don’t even do that thing you were telling me to do’, because they actually do it. They work hard, so I’m willing to put in the work also.”

“I guess I’m the ‘Unc’ of the team” said CGTC sophomore Christian Watkins on Wednesday.  “I got experience of how it’s going. You got to take care of your body, you got to listen, you got to be responsible, and teaching these young guys, its a young team, so just being that role model for them, and making sure I’m doing the right thing.  I’m leading, so they are going to follow and that’s what I’m trying to accomplish here. Win and get to the next level.”

“From this program, I expect us to go all the way obviously” said Freshman Jayden Wynn.  “Just build and get better with our game everyday. Down the court, I just play hard also, and cheer up my team whenever they are feeling down.”

The Men’s team kicks off their season on November 1 as they host TLAP Sports Academy.

The Lady Titans will have a scrimmage at Middle Georgia State October 15th and will kick off their season on the road against Northwest Florida State College.
