1975 Ghsa Triple A State Championship Central Chargers Reunite For Their 50th Anniversary

MACON, Georgia – (41NBC/WMGT) – The Central Chargers turned back the clock Friday night, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1975 GHSA Class AAA state championship football team during a special ceremony.

Seven members of that championship squad were in attendance, recognized for their historic achievement while also cheering on Central’s basketball teams. The 1975 Chargers remain the only football team in county history to win a state championship.

That season, Central posted an 11-1 overall record and went a perfect 5-0 in region play, capturing the Region 4-AAA title for the third time in four years. Despite a loss to Northside in the final regular-season game, the Chargers regrouped quickly when the postseason began.

Central opened the playoffs with a victory over Northside just two weeks later, then went on to score 21 points in each of its three playoff wins en route to the state title.

The former players were met with a standing ovation and a loud “C’s House” chant from the crowd as they gathered to reminisce, share memories and pose for photos with the championship trophy they earned five decades ago.

For one night, Central celebrated not just a team, but a lasting legacy that continues to define Chargers football half a century later.
