Centerville’s former top cop resigns

CENTERVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Centerville’s former top cop announced he’s resigning from his position.

Mayor John Harley says Lt. Phillip Pritchett told him and council he was stepping down from his duties with the department. Harley says he didn’t expect Pritchett to step down.

“We’ve now got to figure out how we’ll re-organize the department to get ourselves back on track,” Harley says.

Pritchett and the department’s former police director, Edward Tucker, were placed on paid administrative leave for unspecified reasons this month.

The city began a non-criminal inquiry into the police department this month. Harley says he expect the initial findings from that inquiry at council’s next meeting on October 6th.
