Centerville names former city councilman as new police director
Last night at their council meeting, leaders determined Ed Tucker will be the new “Director of Police Services.” Tucker was the Post 3 councilman. He had to step down to take the new position.
Mayor John Harley say he thinks Tucker is perfectly suited for the part-time position for now until he retires from teaching.
“He’s had 26 years of military service,” he says. “He’s currently serving as a sergeant major with the National Guard.”
Tucker is replacing former chief Sidney Andrews, who resigned last month because of health reasons. Harley says the new position will “tighten up” some administrative concerns.
Lt. Phillip Pritchett will handle the day-to-day operations for the patrol division.
State law requires the city to appoint someone to fill the empty post 3 seat. Tucker’s term was ending in November. Those looking to run for the position can qualify beginning on August 31st with an election on November 3rd.
